Hickory, North Carolina, October 1, 2021/PRNewswire/--Fujikura and Conec of the United States have reached a licensing and cooperation agreement that enables the two companies to manufacture interoperable multi-fiber and duplex VSFF (super Small) connector. MMC is a multi-fiber connector using a reduced size 1x16 fiber MT ferrule (TMT), which can increase the MPO port density by three times and support a higher density cabling infrastructure with extremely low insertion loss performance. The new TMT ferrule is now processed by US Conec and Fujikura, with complete interoperability, eliminating the guarantee of supply problems. The TMT ferrule uses the proven alignment structure of the MT-16 ferrule, which is deployed in MPO-16 connectors today and is compatible with standard fiber optic cabling technology using 125-micron diameter and 250-micron pitch fibers. US Conec’s ELiMENT™ MDC connector is a duplex fiber optic connector that uses the proven 1.25 mm diameter ferrule technology specified in the SFP-DD, QSFP-DD and OSFP pluggable transceiver MSA, which is the same as MMC The footprint and density are three times the duplex LC format of MMC, while supporting the port branch architecture of emerging transceiver designs. The cooperation in the development and delivery of MMC and MDC connectors maximized the synergy between Fujikura and US Conec, while realizing a multi-supplier supply chain.

The next-generation link architecture using 400G and higher rates and the most advanced pluggable transceivers or co-packaged optical devices require higher-density fiber optic cabling solutions, which cannot be met by existing MPO, LC and SC technologies plan. VSFF MMC and MDC connector formats can meet these challenges of operators and data center performance requirements.

"The MMC and MDC connector formats open up a new era of connectivity by providing unparalleled density, simple insertion/extraction, field configurability, and the best carrier-grade performance," said Joe Graham, President of Conec, USA. "The cooperation between US Conec and Fujikura ensures that strong supply chain requirements are met, and at the same time opens the door to rapid mass deployment using leading connector technology."

Director and Chief Operating Officer Naoki Okada said: "We are committed to providing our customers with excellent value and contributing to society through cutting-edge optical fiber, optical cable, multi-fiber connection and other'Tsunagu' technologies." Fujikura's.
